Unresolved sexual tension is a common scriptwriter's technique, and was used to provide the main character drive in TV series such as Moonlighting. When the sexual tension was resolved, the tension that made the relationship interesting to the audience disappeared.

History

The acronym URST became common terminology within society through the Australian TV series Secret Life of Us. URST became a very popular term, around the water cooler, following the show. The show also helped to spread URST to other countries in which it was aired, such as the UK, New Zealand and Canada. UST is also popular with X-Files fans, concerning the relationship of Mulder and Scully.
